Oakley hosted a private or sorta private viewing of Mack Dawg’s newest projects. It was an emotional night, 2 weeks ago Dawger sent out a letter annoucing to the snowboard community that he will no longer make snowboard movies, and that he was moving on to other projects.
We will keep this write up brief, all we can say is put these two movies on your must watch list for this season. You will not be disapointed.

It’s been a pretty fun StepChild week up here in Whistler at the Camp of Champions. There has been lots of shredding, skating and hangin with COC Campers.
StepChild Highlights of the week include JP and Simon?s picnic table sessions, Scotty Vine triple back flipping onto the air bag, Kale Stephens missing the air bag and walking away. Joe Sexton even came up to judge the Grom Fest rail Jam and teach the COC Campers how to tie-dye T-Shirts.
Off the hill activities included E-man and JP ripping the mini ramp as well as Simon and JP’s B-Ball games.
Our thoughts go out to Nomis rider Steve Cartwright who broke his jaw today on the glacier and is spending the night in the Vancouver hospital.
We’ll be back in a few days with another update and some more photos from the StepChild week at Camp Of Champions.

StepChild Snowboards in partnership with Utah based Mobile Rider have teamed up to bring you the all new StepChild Snowboards Media Page at StepChildsnowboards.com.
This will bring about a long missing element to the StepChild Snowboards website”, says StepChild owner Sean Johnson, “Up until now, we’ve relied on YouTube and our other media partners to get our videos and teasers out there, now we’ve got an easy way to release clips at our leisure throughout the year, we can offer downloads of our past videos and clips too. Next week we ‘ll start putting up all of the parts from Child Support, if anyone still cares about that flick!?”
The Mobile rider player comes equipped with great sharing options including the ability to forward to your friends and even embed the clips directly on your own site, a crucial function in todays web savvy world.
Right now the player includes all of the infamous ‘StepChild Saturdays’ clips, a partnership between TransworldSnowboarding.com and StepChild that saw an exclusive new video clip released each Saturday on the TWS site. Plans for the future are to slowly release Child Support video parts as well as unseen footage from the 2007 video project.
Also in the works is a quick 12 minute video project/team highlight reel which will be available for download later in 2008, keep your eyes on the StepChild Media Page and blog for more info.
Mobile Rider whose clients also include Tourism Whistler, GT, Reef and even rock band KISS have been producing web and mobile publishing tools since 2005.
It’s been a while since Picnic In The Park but like all good things sometimes it’s worth waiting for!…
What’s a picnic without a little Midwest Mud?!?
Picnic In The Park was brought to life in 2003 with the idea of bringing snowboarding back to where it belongs….In the hands of people who actually snowboard! The Empire Collective in collaboration with 686, Stepchild Snowboards, Airblaster, Bluebird Wax and Elm Company Headwear took a small idea on what a “true” snowboard event should embrace and established what many others will try to replicate for years to come.Picnic In The Park came to life based on nothing but the pure essence of snowboarding, having fun with friends and exploring fresh on-snow possibilities.Whether it’s the mini jib-ditch theme, gaper-green-gap, air-couch, teeter-totter twock or bonkin’ barrels, this event always brings fresh open-minded ideas to the table.Picnic In The Park provides a missing links between the retailers, resorts, manufactures and their consumers. Bringing people from all corners of the industry together in one place just to have fun embodies the “picnic purpose”.Picnic In The Park has grown 5 years strong without the help of haters, corporate big dollar budgets from energy drink companies, underwear sponsors, wack hair product wallets or ski company checkbooks, yet only the illest snowboard company support.
“jib-ditch”
2008 brought Picnic In The Park a new home at one of the Midwest’s best-kept secrets… Devil’s Head Resort.Home to some of the best natural terrain in the region, Devil’s Head catered to all aspects of this years event. On site bars, restaurants, nightclub, hotel and legit snowboard park ensured there couldn’t be a better place to host this infamous event!
Cody Madro showin’ how it’s done
The Empire Collective Crew
The shredding went off as expected, with riders in attendance from as far as California, Missouri, Utah, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota and so on.Since Picnic In The Park is a“Non-Test” there were no jock rail jams or kook big air bonanzas to be found, just a solid day of shredding and partying with friends. Some, however, decided to take it up a notch and earn themselves some fresh gear courtesy of 686, Stepchild and Airblaster.
Courtney Cox, Paul Buck, Keith Kubiesa, and Sam Hauke all slayed away to earn themselves some goodie bags.Tony Krusenbaum hit the gnarliest ollie off the Air Couch to cop himself a 686 outerwear set, while Salena Retsos and Brandon Martian opted to mud wrestle to earn themselves their 686 kits!
Gettin’ nasty! Kevin Wells tweakin’ hard
Joe Sexton 50-50s the mini wall
In addition, the notorious Picnic In The Park after party popped off later that evening. The first 100 people through the door received Stepchild’s Child Support DVD with the chance to meet Stepchild’s hard-hitting AM, Joe Sexton.
Joe, hailing from Minnesota, has supported Picnic In The Park since its launch in 2003, showing up to shred and party every year, staying true to his roots. With Joe in the house the kiddies were getting wild in hopes to maybe get an autograph or even just the chance to meet him!
Haz Solo and Paul @ Moda3
Ladwig and the picnic girls
As the night blurred, the after party officially earned the name “The Picnic Pass-Out” as so many hit the three-hour-free-beer hard and ended up straight passing out from standing. The insane live performance by Milwaukee’s own Haz Solo got some guys wildin’ out to hard to handle, landing themselves face down eating carpet before the night came to a close.Security collected at least 6 full blown pass-outs in the mud and bushes surrounding the club’s front door before midnight.Between the full day of shredding, live hip-hop, free booze, bar dances and packed house, Picnic In The Park proved itself a success, once again raising the bar for snowboard events!
Big shout outs go to Joseph @ Devil’s Head Resort for hosting this year’s event, 686 for the major support, Stepchild Snowboards, Airblaster, Elm, Bluebird, Joe Sexton, The Picnic crew: Eric King, Kevin Wells, Jason Allmann and Tom Morse, Scott N, Ryan Siefkas, Will Redd, Eric and the crew from MODA3.com, Haz Solo and his DJ, all who helped out and volunteered, all the haters and of course The Empire Collective!
Its been a pretty eventful spring in Whistler. We’ve been waiting in the clouds for almost the whole month of April but we did get a few great days before it went to shizz.
Ilari waiting for the sun..and waiting..and waiting..
Stian, Ilari and Markku have been stinking up old man Johnson’s house waiting for the sun and snow to hit Whistler.
Wimbles shoots the gap-Whistler.
Sick of waiting in Whistler, the gang headed off to Golden in the BC Interior with Stian, Wimbles, Ilari and Shin.
The Backcountry there was amazing but the avalanche conditions weren’t the best. Upon landing this air the whole landing slid.
Stian Solberg fs 7 Tail about 2 seconds before the landing slid.
Shin Campos AKA ?The Wizard? dropping a tail grab grab in Golden
Chris Wimbles-FS 540 Melon before throwing on the toolbelt.
Ilari’s snowmobile fell into a creek. Strart digging homie.
The only thing going through Wimbles mind was “..please don’t slide, please don’t slide, please don’t slide.’
After an amazing season filming for Mack Dawg’s new movie Double Decade, JP is just finishing up with his steezy riders motorcycle tour.
Is that JP?s riding gear or is that the new 32 outerwear-Just Kidding!
JP’s Ride
JP’s good friends Seth, Jeremy and several others drove the bikes from Utah to California doing some skating and snowboarding along the way.
Sexton, Simon and Stian are all in Mammoth preparing for super park right now. Sexton will be coming up to Whister for May to hang at the Squamish skatepark and ride the Whistler backcountry.
StepChild hooked up the team from Picnic in the Park with plenty of free Child Support DVD’s for their event, be sure to go by the StepChild tents and get your free copy while they still have some!
